Add up the individual bulb wattages
of all the fixtures in your system.
Choose a Transformer that is large
enough to provide the needed total wattage for your system. The load (total
watts needed for your fixtures) should be within 50 to 80 percent of the
rated capacity of the transformer. For example use a 300-watt transformer
for 150 to 240 watt loads. This will allow at least 20 percent more capacity
in case you add lights later. A transformer that is too large for the load
may overdrive the lamps which will shorten their life spans.
