Pressure Vacuum Breaker Assemblies

Pressure vacuum breaker assemblies (PVBA) are used to protect water supplies from contamination or pollution.

Irrigation backflow devices are designed for installation on potable water lines to protect against both back siphonage and back pressure of contaminated water into the potable water supply. Backflow assemblies provide protection where a potential health hazard exists.

Pressure Vacuum Breaker Assemblies

Pressure vacuum breaker assemblies (PVBA) are the most frequently used and inexpensive type of whole-system backflow preventer device. The benefits of this type of sprinkler backflow prevention valve are its low cost and simplicity. PVBAs are easy to install, maintain, and repair. Some models of pressure vacuum breaker assemblies include built-in freeze protection valves; however, these valves only protect the backflow assembly itself, not the water lines.

These breakers will also occasionally eject some water, so it is important to purchase a spill-resistant backflow preventer model for indoor installation, or for any area where water spillage would create a nuisance. Air gap drains are also required when installing indoors. We carry a wide selection of PVBs from a variety of manufacturers, including Febco, Combraco, Wilkins, and Watts. Each pressure vacuum breaker works the same way; however there will be variation between manufacturers in size selection, price range, and product features and specs. We recently added a new line of Febco pressure vacuum breaker assemblies. These new pressure vacuum breakers come with union ball valves. This makes them a little more expensive than the original models, but highly worth it for easy installation and removal, as well as maximum freeze protection.
