Initial Rating of Toro TRS Wired Rain Sensor
I had used a Toro Wired Rain sensor for six or seven years with great success. I recently purchased my second Toro rain sensor as part of my routine home maintenance. It has only operated through two rain days but it worked perfectly each time. My rating of four on the new rain sensor is based on the limited time of operation. If you check back with me in two or three years, it may get a rating of five.

For Toro Model 53603 Timer Can I use this Item?
A shopper on Jun 2, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes, from what I surmise from the 53603 manual the sensor circuit works with a normally closed switch which is how the TRS comes out of the box. I would suggest that before installing it outside you connect the new sensor and make sure that your system is working properly. It is a lot easier to troubleshoot problems standing on the ground then working off a ladder. The data sheet that comes with the TRS shows you how to test the unit w/o the need for getting it wet.
Is this sensor all I need in addition to the Toro TMC-212 to have a system that auto delays based on rain? Will this sensor work with other brands like the Irritrol Rain Dial 600?
VJ D on Jun 5, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I don't know any specifics about the Toro controllers but I have a Rain Bird controller and this works great. It comes with instructions to make it a normally closed circuit or normally open circuit so I would imagine it would work with most controllers. I can't say for 100%, but check the product manual for the controller and see if it mentions having a normally open or normally closed circuit; if either one is mentioned, I bet it would work fine.
Can this sensor be used on a system that specifies a normally open sensor?
A shopper on Jun 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will work, you just need to change one cable configuration. This sensor comes configured for "normally close" operation, but you can reconfigured it to "normally open" changing the position of one of the cable connectors, you will need only a screwdriver to do this.
I would like to install this device in my own homemade controller, so I need know two electrical specifications:
1) How much current ( and volts ) use the relay coil ?
2) Which is the maximun current supported at the relay contact ?
A shopper on May 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The device is basically a single poll switch activated by the expansion, due to moisture, of some rings in the unit. It does not draw any current normally as it is an open circuit. When wet it closes to stop the controller from operating the zones. It can also be wired, I believe to function in the opposite, which is to say it is normally closed and open when wet. The draw would be determined by how far from the controller it is located. I think the unit is rated for 2 amps at 12 volts.
will the trs wired rain sensor work on my toro EL-6+ controller?
jim s on Mar 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: If your controller has the terminals for a rain sensor I am sure it would work.
