Hunter NODE 1 Station Battery Operated Controller with DC Latching Solenoid

  • Hunter Node Battery Operated Controller
  • 1 Station Valve Mounted Controller
  • DC Latching Solenoid

Features & Benefits

For isolated sites, power-restricted areas, or the special needs of drip zones, the Hunter Node is the smart, reliable solution. The Node mounts to a valve solenoid quickly and easily, and without screws, drills or additional wires. The unit's solid construction and waterproof exterior ensure it can handle the harsh environment of a valve box. Once placed in a valve box, the Node is operated by one or two 9V batteries, which provide standard or extended power throughout the season. Along with exceptional reliability, the Node features an easy-to-program LCD screen, the ability to control a Master Valve, and uses standard Hunter controller programming with 3 programs and 4 start times per program. The array of programming options and rugged reliability make the Node a compact, but powerful irrigation controller with the flexibility of battery power.

The Choice for New Installations or Retrofits

The Hunter Node is an easy addition to an existing system or the ideal choice for an entirely new one. For that extra zone you have that's not wired to your present controller, simply purchase a NODE-100 and attach it to the valve quickly and easily. Or, if you're installing irrigation for the first time in an area that has no direct power access, simply order the Node factory-installed on a PGV 1 in. flow control valve.

Single or Double 9V Battery Life with Constant Readout

When it comes to battery-powered controllers, there are generally two common issues that inevitably arise. The first is that one 9V battery may not last through a season. The second is that it is difficult to know how much battery life a unit has left without laborious tracking. The Node solves both of these problems with two smart innovations: The option to add a second 9V battery for extended power, and a battery life-status indicator on the LCD display. With battery life guaranteed to last through an entire season and a constant power-level readout, the need for in-season replacement becomes eliminated, and allows operators to install a new battery only when it is absolutely necessary. For maintenance-free operation year-round, the optional Solar Panel can be added to Node quickly and easily.

The NODE is fully submersible and resists all moisture intrusion in water, mud, and debris as deep as 12 ft.

  • Standard Hunter controller programming As easy to program as any other Hunter controller. 3 programs (A, B, C) and up to 4 start times each
  • Control up to six zones Models available in 1, 2, 4, and 6 station operation
  • Waterproof and fully submersible to 12 ft. No moisture intrusion, even in flooded valve box environments
  • Long battery life Operates on one or two 9 volt batteries to ensure long operation
  • Rain Sensor compatible Ensure irrigation does not occur during rain events by connecting a Rain sensor
  • Master Valve compatible Ability to operate a master valve (only available with 2, 4, or 6 station models)
  • Compatible with Hunter Solar Panel Maintenance free operation and no need to change or check battery condition
  • Seasonal Adjustment (10-150%) allows for quick changes to all run times through a percentage scale

Short Lived and Expensive to Replace
I installed unit in a 4 foot section of 6" plastic waste pipe. Made access to controls easy (no crawling around and groping in box)and raised unit well above any water. Pipe was capped on top with standard end cap (rubber cover that comes with unit was used as designed - two layers of protection from water intrusion) and bottom of pipe was set into about 4" of gravel. Very convenient but electronics failed in just over 2 years. Local supplier wants $150 + tax for replacement for failed unit, which cost around $85 when new. I'm getting replacement at sprinklerwarehouse but if this one fails in a few years, I'm never going to get another Hunter.

Good controller, badly assembled
I've used a number of these, and like them However, it was frustrating to receive one of them that had been cross-threaded at the factory; you have to unscrew the back in order to put the batteries in but it was so tightly cross-threaded we had to use a pair of pipe wrenches and fortunatly did get it apart (and correctly reassembled) without damage. Factory needs to be more careful.

Would Water Manually Before I Buy Anothe
I've now gone through six of these. I bought six to use as temporary system until power was brought on site. Overall, I believe Hunter makes a great product. That being said, the SVC controllers are some of biggest wastes of money I've ever incurred. I have not had one controller last beyond a year. Most were only good for a 9 month season before the controller starts going whacky and then quits all together. My suspension is that somehow water is able to penetrate the capsule. All controllers were mounted in valve boxes using the controller mount to keep them off the dirt. I have since switched to the Orbit Water Master which apparently can't be killed. What a contrast. A consumer Orbit out performing a Hunter Pro SVC controller. Word to the wise...buy an Orbit.

I am trying to replace my Rainbird Easy Rain Single Valve Controllers....will this work?
Jason K on Apr 11, 2012

I looked online at your RB station controller . There were no technical drawings but by scale it looked like the RB solenoid thread diameter was bigger than the Node-100 . The node solenoid thread diameter is about 3/8 to 1/2 " course thread . Sorry I don't have the NODE controller at the moment to confirm actual thread size but you could measure your RB controller and then go from there .
Good Luck .

I'm new to this system... can't get it to operate manually. I keep pressing the center button and it does Time of day, Start time .Length of watering but then it goes to OFF What am I doing wrong?
Tony L on Mar 20, 2012

I believe if you hold down the right arrow button, the timing interval will display as you have it set. Just move the time up or down as to how long you want it to water manually and then wait a second and you should start seeing a 10 second countdown. At the end of the countdown, the solenoid should switch and the sprinklers should come on. If you are moving through the setting options with the center button, never stop on the section that says off. This leave the entire system off and it won't come on manually or automatically. Hope this might help.
I mated a brand new NODE 1 to a brand new 1" Hunter valve to water a lawn & planter on a commercial property. The 8 minute(0:08) run time I set never happens. Timer only allows flow for what seems like 8 seconds rather than minutes. The timer came with the proper DC solenoid and the water pressure in the main is sufficient. I tried different run times, same thing happens. System comes on then shuts off right away??

What kind of battery does a Node 100 take?
A shopper on Aug 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It takes at least one 9V battery to run. It has the capacity to take two 9V batteries to extend the run time.
I don't think I need the solenoid, just the timer, to replace the previous timer model (Hunter SVC). Can I get just the timer?
gretchen h on Mar 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I've had these for a number of years and now have the latest model. The solenoid has not changed, in voltage or other characteristics. But you'll have to splice the wiring I believe - when you order the timer with the solenoid, there is no "quick disconnect" for the wiring to unplug. So if you're comfortable with doing that, it shouldn't be a problem. Under the circumstances, I generally order the complete assembly, and keep the old solenoid in case of failure (which has never happened. The older timers certainly did fail on me, but these newer models seem to be much better.).
Do I have to replace the valve?
A shopper on Aug 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You don't have to replace the valve, as long as the solenoid fits and the valve is functioning properly. But if your problem is that the sprinklers wont shut off, or turn on, the valve may be the problem getting stuck, or filled with debris, and not just the controller. It is safer to replace everything, better safe than sorry. If your able to take apart the valve, sometimes you can clean out debris and sediment, without replacing it.
how do I replace the battery ?
A shopper on Dec 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You just un-screw the bottom of the unit. There are two (2) 9v batteries for this unit. It also may have come with a plastic tool to use to un-screw the unit. Good luck with your changing of the batteries. FBM from Texas

Just want get it to open valve?
A shopper on Apr 14, 2020
BEST ANSWER: not sure what your asking? You can manually open a valve by slightly reversing the solenoid until it opens. ALSO,The bleeder screw can be unscrewed until it allows water through.

This NODE is used when the electrical supply to the valve has been broken.
How can watering start times be turned to OFF?

I purchased this item lase week not realizing I would need to have a valve to go with it. What's my most economical choice?
Garry D on Jun 10, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The solenoid fits Hunter valves. I have two of these controllers that are in remote spots that are not situated very well to run wire out to them. For my application, the 9V battery lasts about two irrigation seasons. At the end of the year, I just unscrew the solenoid from the valve, take out the battery and put them in the garage for winter storage. They are water tight, so this is probably unnecessary but I do it anyway. As far as what is the most economical choice, I've used the PGV for about $15. Now I'm starting to like the Jar-Top ones. They are just a bit cheaper and seem to keep the valve boxes drier. Hope that helps.
can be replace old manual plastic valve with this?
A shopper on Mar 5, 2013
BEST ANSWER: THis is a timer, and not a valve, It comes with the timer and the solenoid only. You can use this setup on any Hunter solenoid valve, I use it on some 2" valves and a large number of 3/4" valves, equally well.
The solenoid is a DC latching solenoid that will not work with a normal plug in timer, and the normal solenoid that comes with a Hunter valve will not work with this timer, which is why they wire a DC latching solenoid to it for you.
So, buy this, and buy a Hunter valve of whatever style and size you want to go with it and you're good to go.
I have 1" rainbird DV valves. Will the Hunter solinoid screw into the Rainbird valve body?
A shopper on Nov 8, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I'm sorry, I can't give a reliable answer. Not all solenoids are compatible with all valves. I replaced the valve at the same to so I knew mine was a proper fit.

There are three options:
1. Wait to receive the solenoid and see if it is a proper fit into the Rain Bird valve.

2. Purchase a solenoid that is compatible with the Rain Bird valve. Make sure it is a DC solenoid for the Hunter Node

3. Purchase a new valve that is compatible with the Hunter solenoid.

I'm sorry I am not more help.. Good luck.
Is the NODE-100 controller the same as the SVC-100 Hunter that I know have and need to replace?
Robert L K on Sep 25, 2012
BEST ANSWER: they are basically the same, i like the node better. on manual timing you can change amount of time of watering. start time is in 15 min intervals so setting watering times or removing 2nd or third ,, is faster.
Will this work on a 2" value (50mm) on constant high pressure? And do you distribute to New Zealand?
A shopper on May 14, 2012
BEST ANSWER: It will work as long as you have the right DC latching solenoid for the valve in question. The included DC latching solenoid doesn't work for everything. For example, the Irritrol 700 valves take a different DC latching solenoid. It will have to be one that works with 9 volts.
Hi, Can I use this elect controller with the 1-1/2 '' toro valve and different seloid?
A shopper on Apr 5, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I don't see why not since all the controller does is send an electrical pulse to the solenoid to open the valve. More than once I have cut off the solenoid that comes with the unit and wired the controller to my existing solenoid (trying to avoid digging the valve up). This has worked every time. My valves are Rain Bird not Toro. I am a non-professional user.
will this work with superior and rainbird brass valves ?
A shopper on Jul 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Need to change the solenoid of that valve with a DC latching solenoid that fits that type of valve then it’ll work with the battery operated controller. Battery lasts a very long time. We change it out each season (our season is around 7-9 months long).
I have a hunter node 100 how ,can I set the timer for four hours each day?
ray c on Mar 16, 2015

Is the latching solenoid compatible with a one inch rainbird valve?
A shopper on Jul 3, 2013
BEST ANSWER: No, but you can buy DC latching solenoids for other valves and wire them into this controller.
I have set the timer to go off at two different times. How do I take one of the time sets off? I have the Hunter Node one zone
Anne c on Jun 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: According to the owners manual you can completely erase the current program and start over. To do that you hold down the minus (-), right arrow and the program keys. After 2 seconds the screen will go blank. Continue to hold all three keys down and 12:00 will flash on the display. You can release the keys at this point and reprogramm the controller.
I hope this helps.
are node battery timers be used on toro valves?
debbie k on Apr 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but you would need to get a tor DC latching solenoid. Then you cut off the latching solenoid that comes with the hunter node and use a couple wire nuts to connect the node to the toro DC latching solenoid. I do it all the time.
