The Hunter Roam Kit came in just a few days. Very easy to install and even easer to use. I have the reciever attached to my Hunter control box which is inside a closet inside of my garage. I have 1/2 acer property and even with all the doors closed to my closet and garage,I have had no problem with the transmitter reaching the receiver. After a few of my neighbors saw me using it they are also going to order a kit.

Good Product.
This product performed as advertised. Fast delivery and easy to use. Being able to run the sprinklers remotely saves hours of time. Made the season start up much easier. I highly recommend this product.

Works great
It works great but it isn't real hi tech. It doesn't give you any read out of what is on or how much time is left. It does turn on and off any valve for the time of your choice. It's really good for checking whether all sprinklers are working.

to be used for adjusting and cleaning of sprinkler heads and lines. Use of dirty irrigation water for sprinklers is a chore even with the best of filters. Often find head screens clog and need regular cleaning along with line. walking back and forth from the heads being worked on to the controller takes a lot of time when your yard is 1 acre. Hoping this remote controller will reduce the time it takes cleaning. Should also help when blowing out lines prior to winter. We'll see!!!

Does this remote require a direct line of sight with the receiver?
A shopper on Jul 12, 2013
BEST ANSWER: no. My sprinkler controller is at eye level in the garage, consequently the transceiver is there also, I use my hand held device anywhere on my lot or in my house, lot size is about 160 by 160 feet.
Does this remote allow you to change the existing pre-programmed adjustments in the controller?
A shopper on Jun 18, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The Roam-Kit allows remote control of a single zone but does not run or change the programmed functions of the controller. Here's the introduction to the user's manual:
"Finally, there’s no need to walk back to the controller to start and stop a manual watering cycle when doing maintenance or repair work on your irrigation system. Finally, winterization can be done quickly and easily with one worker instead of two. Finally no more going back to the garage to start or stop a manual irrigation cycle."
Does the hunter ROAM kit include the wiring harness (ROAM-WH)?
Carl S on Mar 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes as long as you are being both receiver and the wireless controller. It appears that is what is shown in the picture. You must have a hunter controler
I have a Hunter ICC controller for my irrigation system. The Hunter roam kit would really be a great purchase. Is the roam kit something that needs to be 'installed' or does it simply attach to any Hunter controller?
Jen B on Mar 21, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The ROAM installation manual (available on the Hunter website) shows how to install with the ICC controller using the wiring port kit supplied with the ROAM-KIT product. Just 3 wires are used to make the connection.

After you have connected the port to the side of the controller and plug in the receiver/transmitter it automatically registers to the handset when turned on. You will hear a high-pitched beep as it does this and a few seconds later is usable. The handset has a display that shows a small hour-glass icon while it registers and disappears when completed. When you press the button to turn the zone on you will see an icon that looks like it is transmitting to the controller.

Note that the 1000 feet range is generous, about all I have gotten out of the range so far is around 800 feet. I recommend you consider the ROAM XL if range is important to you.

The ROAM is light and about the size of a land-line wireless phone.
Can I leave the transmitter and receiver remote hooked up to the system all the time? I wish to water in normal cycles with our lawn...then activate one zone manually for a specific flower garden we can see from the house.
A shopper on Jul 1, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the receiver can remain plugged-in at all times and it won't affect the automatic operation of the controller. I have my remote always connected and keep it by the back door. If I notice that the auto cycle is not enough, I use the remote to add more water in a zone. I have had the controller and remote for > 1 year. They both work perfectly.
Will the remote override the controller and turn zones on if the controller is in the off position?
A shopper on Jun 18, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I purchased a Hunter ROAM system last year and love the ease and functionality.

YES, the system does run the selected sprinkler zone with the main controller in the OFF position. (but the controller must be plugged in to a power outlet). You can select the zone, and time to run, turn it on and off while in the yard, for one zone at a time with the remote. The ROAM does not over ride your program, you still must go to controller to change any of the watering program settings for the automatic watering cycles.

By the way, pretty easy to install with basic tools and knowledge...took me about 30 minutes and had it up and running. Hope this helps. Bob
how does it work?
A shopper on Jun 13, 2012
BEST ANSWER: It is actually a really cool remote control for your sprinkler system. It was simple to hook up to the main controler unit. I am able to control the sprinklers from any where in my house or property (10k lot) by a push of a button. It allows me to turn a secton on and off, set a duraton while I am in the section to be watered. It great for troubleshooting line issues... Hope this helps. Good luck with your system.
I currently have a Hunter Pro controller with the remote wiring harness. I need to be able to remotely turn the different zones on and off as I am handicapped and cannot get around to do so.

Is this what I need?
Robert C on Jul 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have an ICC controller with 19 stations in my garage and with a one acre lot I got real tired of walking back and forth to the garage to even do sprinkler repairs . I added the roam kit and am completely satisfied with it . Easy to install and easy to use . I can leave my controller to on and anytime I want use the remote to manually start or stop a circuit. As for range I walked about a quarter of a mile from my back yard and could watch my sprinklers be started and stopped with my remote . Works great from inside the house as well . I use mine all the time . Sounds like It should be just what you need .
does the hunter remote for hunter controllers require a wireless network?
A shopper on Jun 9, 2017
It has a 3 wire plug, that you attach and can leave attached to your control box. The remote reciever attaches to that plug. The handheld unit you keep in your hand. I have to say, of all the things of have added to my system....i love this the most! Really helps me repair zones in the spring
does this kit include the smart port?
william h on May 31, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does. Locate it near the controller because you will need to wire it through the pipe you mount it to. Also through the same pipe consider installing the rain sensor. I do not know how I ever got sprinkler chores done with out this. it is great!
I have metal buildings on the property, and am worried about signal loss Would mounting the receiver up higher off the ground help (say 10' instead of 4' or so) ?
Mike M on May 24, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I have mine mounted about 7.5 ft high. I have a little more than a half acre which is not square but irregular. I do not have metal buildings on my property but the ROAM works great. From where the ROAM is mounted to the opposite side of my property, the signal has to go through my garage and home. My son who is a sprinkler installer uses the ROAM all the time and he loves it. He works on huge estates and commercial properties and he sets it up on the fly to have remote control when he is in the field. It is part of their field tool kit. I hope this answer helps you.
is this compatible with Hunter ICC controllers?
A shopper on Jul 2, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Yes, look at page 17 in the manual. There is no difference in any of the handheld controllers with respect to how they electrically connect to and operate with Hunter controllers. This particular unit functions quite well within a particular operating range (some limitations with regard to terrain, buildings etc.) I've had one handheld transmitter conk out after about five years of use.
does the hunter roam kit include the wiring harness needed to provide the connection port where Roam receiver is attached?
A shopper on Nov 2, 2011
BEST ANSWER: The kit includes the plug that the reciever connects to and this plug has approx. 2 ft. of wire attached to it. Depending on far you need to go from the controller to the reciever, you should plan on running the wire in conduit. Either plastic or metal will work. This is especiall true if you're going through a wall.

Hope this helps!
do you need a remote for each controller or will remotes operate multiple units?

A shopper on Feb 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Remote transmitters are paired with one receiver at a time. This is a kit with one socket that you wire into the controller, one receiver that plugs into that socket and one transmitter that communicates commands to the controller via the receiver. The receiver is easily unplugged and used with other controllers that have the available socket installed. Some controllers have the socket pre-fitted to the side of the controller -- if not you can buy extra socket(s) for the other controllers.
I have an ICC controller and currently use the previous Hunter remote system. It's OK but does not have the range so it doesn't work at the farthese zones in my yard. Will this new controller (ROAM) work better than the one I'm using now?
David A on Feb 3, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I'm using the ROAM-KIT with a Pro-C after having the lesser model remote (name escapes me) with the same controller at another house. I thought the ROAM would be much more effective over distance and through walls, etc. but that hasn't been the case. I would say it is quite effective but the range I have found certainly isn't 2-3x the lesser model. Granted, I haven't tested them side-by-side with fresh batteries, this is just anticdotal info. I got the lesser model to work at about 400' on occassion with the controller being behind an insulated wall. I also had it be slow at 25' with the same set up. The ROAM worked through solid masonry walls at 200'+ but sometimes I would balk. All this being said, I do like the ROAM and would get another if the situation presented itself.
I read that the receiver should not be near metal (like a roof). Do I need to mount a piece of wood (plywood) on the side of a metal building for the receiver?
Mike M on May 26, 2012

I installed thhis unit on an interior wood frame wall in my garage up 6 feet. It works great for me, even on the backside of the house. My maximum distance is about 200 feet.

I have a srong background in radio communications, and anytime you mount an antenna near a metal structure, it will greatlly impact the functionallity of the receiver. This would be more dramatic on the side of the building opposite the receiver. Radio waves at these frequencies are pretty much line of site, thus the metal building would detune the antenna or act as a shield on the backside. If the metal buliding is the only mounting option, you should try to mount the unit above the building.on a post, pipe or mast such as those available at Radio Shack, Frys, Home Depot

Hope this helps

Will this remote work with the Hunter X-Core 6 timer?
A shopper on Jan 27, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I just recently purchased this remote to work with the Hunter X-Core 4 station and the X-Core 8 station. It works because there is an input wire slot that the remote uses. I am totally happy with the remote, it is awesome to be anywhere in your yard and be able to turn on your sprinklers, especially during setup and programming. It was well worth the money. The X-Core is kind of basic timer but for a small residential application it does the job.

Hope that helps.
I have a Hunter I-CORE controller, I believe model IC-600PL. Will this remote work with my system? I have 20 zones. Thanks.
Edward H on Apr 7, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I have purchased alot of these units. I have one in front of me, looks like 47 zones is its max. So does your clock have the corrrect hook up? I only use the IC clock from Hunter. The baby remote, Roam is a good unit, very simple and tough. Does not transmit like the big original remote, but if not going to far with it, you can not beat it. Hunter is simply the best. Remember, can you hook up smart port to your existing clock? I am a athletic field contractor thats hooked on Hunter! Regards Dave
Is this capatible with the Irrigation Direct box? Same as Hunter Pro C...
A shopper on May 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Am not technically able to advise re: interchangeability. Our SRC box was 5-10 years old& original remote was lost. Specs said this remote would work with our system & did just that. I Think specs say it will work with a Pro. That would be my guide.
I am not too familiar with this product and as I was doing a repair for a homeowner and the romote was functional. One of the valves was not coming on and it was due to a cut wire. I fix the wiring problem and now the system is operational; however, the remote no longer works! Nothing was tampered with, and the only thing I can think of is that the homeowner went to change the batteries of the remote to new ones. The controller reads err and I dont understand how it would be a radio interference problem because it worked the entire time I was there. If anyone could suggest some reasoning or perhaps a solution to my dilema I would appreciate it.... Thanks?
Sean Patrick Q on Jun 19, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I have this remote, but not this problem. Ty these things:
1. Install new store bought batteries, as those installed may be old.
2. Unplug the Smartport and follow the instructions in the Hunter manual for installation. This is likely to solve the problem, as it is possible that the receiver and transmitter lost contact while you worked on the electrical. You will hear the beeps to confirm contact.
3. Try moving the receiver. Mine is very sensitive.
can the remote shut the controller ?
robertr c on Sep 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It can turn it off if it's running and you don't want it to be on. It can also turn on the system or any zone for whatever time you set in the remote
I give it 5 stars
I have 12 stations on my remote but I can't get the remote to go past 5. How do I access stations 6 - 12?
Jan T on May 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: One thing to check is to see how many stations the remote is set to as a maximum, Maybe it was set to a maximum of 6 when you have 12 stations. To change (I copied this from the manual):

The ROAM Transmitter allows you to set the maximum station number as follows:
1. If the unit is off (no display), power the transmitter up by pressing and holding the Mode button for 5 seconds. The Transmitter will display the active station.
2. Press the Mode button until the Station
Number icon is displayed.
3. Use the and buttons to change the maximum station number from 1 to 240. Then, do not press any buttons for 10 seconds and the display will return to the active station number.
4. You may now change the active setting to any station in the new station range.
Is this compatible with the remote controls that make servicing the yard easier? I was not seeing this in the manual or Hunter tutorials. If not it looks like I would have to upgrade a Pro-C 400i with the faceplate to get this functionality.

Hunter ROAM-KIT Handheld Sprinkler Remote Control System
Hunter HC WiFi 12 Station WiFi Indoor Controller | HC-1200I
Hunter HC WiFi 12 Station WiFi Indoor Controller | HC-1200I
BEST ANSWER: It is not compatible with remote control as it is not necessary. You install an app on your phone and control it this way. Also has a touch screen on the controller but to small to use with your finger. There are many better wifi controllers available. The biggest issue with this one is inadequate space for wires. If you have burial grade wire with the thicker insulation, space is inadequate. Check out Sprinkl Control for better space for wires and easier installation along with more frequent weather updates.
can I stop a programmed day if there is not a need for water?
A shopper on Jun 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Sounds like you need a rain sensor, they are inexpensive and prevent system from turning on in the event of rain. This remote simply allows you to turn on and off specific zones remotely, it's excellent for making adjustments to heads , without needing to walk back and fourth to the control unit.
To answer your question, yes if sprinklers turned on with timer, and you wanted to turn them off using the remote you could
Will this work with Rain Bird controllers?

BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately I cannot answer the question. Our irrigation controller is a Hunter and I have started migrating the heads to Rainbird which is much easier to install and adjust,
Is the Hunter remote waterproof?
Mike M on Jul 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It really doesn't say if it is but even if it did I would not leave it out in the weather connected. Now there is a water proof cap where the receiver connects to the wires. It really is made to plug in when using it and take it off when not and sealing up the plug in with the rubber cap. Also it works great. Worth every penny.
roam remote receiver got water inside will this cause permanent damage ?
A shopper on Aug 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It is hard to tell. With any electronics, you could have damage. I would treat it just like a cell phone or other electronics. Attempt to dry it out as best you can. Hopefully, it will continue to work.
My control box is mounted outdoors is this remote waterproof, Also is it capable of canceling the program for one day as when raining?
Victor T on Jul 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: And, no, this is a service remote, not a weather station. It does not automatically change the operation of the timer. You carry the transmitter with you out into the field and can turn zones on and off from far away. This is great for making adjustments, repairs etc. so you don't have to have a helper with a 2-way radio, or keep running to the timer box.
I have a Hunter SRC Plus Controller. Will this remote system work with my controller? If so, is it easy to set up?
Vincent T on Jul 25, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the ROAM remote works the same as the older remotes, so it will work with your SRC Plus. If you look at page 9 of your SRC Plus controller manual, it shows how to connect.

I connected mine in 5 minutes. I just brought the wiring harness out the bottom hole of the controller, and plugged it into the base unit, which then sits on top of the controller. If you want it to look more cosmetically pretty, you can spend more time on it, installing PVC pipe with a permanent connector, but it's not necessary.
Does this work with irritrol units?
A shopper on Jun 28, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I am using PC-300 - Hunter Pro-C Series Controller / Timer for my systems and am not familiar with Irritrol. I sort of doubt the remotes will work with another brand controller. The Hunter remote kit comes with a three (3) pin connector that the receiver plugs on to (best outdoors). The three wires go to a specific place in my controller. I would generally think that there is not a "standard" for these remote interfaces and are likely proprietary to each manufacturer. If Irritrol is made by Hunter you may have a shot at it working. I can tell you that the Hunter Hand Held Remotes that you are considering work flawlessly everywhere on my small 1/4 acre lot.

Maybe consider replacing the Irritrol with a Hunter Controller. It should not be too difficult to hook up a new one if you mark the wires carefully.

Hope this helped - Good Luck - Jerry
