Rain Bird Extension
Great simple and quick fix for watering over tall plants (over 15-18") in gardens with sprinkler systems. Easy to install by twisting onto existing end of pop-up sprinkler and re-attaching the sprinkler head. It is perfect for gardens and where no mowing is taking place and plants are tall immediately in front of sprinkler heads, not really meant for lawns since sprinker head will then remain above lawn level by 6" and can be sheered off by mowers or tripped on and broken or worse, break a bone.

A++ This is the second batch I purchased from them
I had purchased "orbits" adjustable shrubbery rods but wanted to use rain birds rotary heads. Since rain bird rotary head replacements use a larger cylindrical filter they would not fit into "orbits" adjustable rods. These shaft extensions have sprinkler head threads which fit "orbit" and fit rain birds rotary heads I was able to make it work.

Ok for a temporary extension fix
These are ok for a temporary extension, but if barely bumped they pop off and usually the threads don't hold up so can't be reattached.

Nice sprinkler riser
Using these is an easy way to get above the shrubs and perennials that have grown taller, without having to replace the entire sprinkler.

Can you attach two or more of these extensions together if more height is needed?
A shopper on Jun 18, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I have stacked 2 and even 3 of the 6" extensions together for added height to clear adjacent shrubbery. You are only limited by your source pressure which is usually more than needed to reach the roof of your house. Remember that the higher the stack, the easier it is to break off the threaded base of the extension.
Will this work in Rainbird 4" sprinkler heads?
Bob on Apr 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. They work well. They will remain above grade when not in use, so they won't work in traffic areas or where people may be tempted to grab them.
on my rain bird pop up sprinklers, the shaft is so long that the lawn and/or ground cover near the base of the sprinkler do not get water. Can I get shorter shafts or is the length based on the housing length?
A shopper on Mar 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hello: Generally, a 5" pop up sprinkler head cannot be shortened since the pop up base is made to fit. You can add extensions to pop ups to make them longer--which only results in more sprinkler shaft sticking up above the ground. I have added extensions to pop ups placed behind shrubs so I can get over the tops. You can solve your problem one of two ways. You can change out the head for ones that are flush mount to the ground (do not pop up). But I am wondering whether you might have missed something in the original sprinkler design. Pop-ups should be designed so that there is adequate overlap. For example when installing 15" 1/2 circle pop-up heads, each head should be placed approximately 14' apart. Then the spray pattern of #1 head, overlaps #2 head and so on. There should be no dry areas since they all cover each other. However, if you try and use one 15' circle head alone in an area, then the lawn area just below the head will not get any overlap coverage and is not really effective. All pop-up or rotary heads should be designed with overlap. If not, your system was not properly designed.
I have hunter sprinkler heads. Is this compatible?
A shopper on May 16, 2013
BEST ANSWER: It sure is. I also have a Hunter system. Totally compatible. I was very pleased to be able to find this part. Local big box stores don't carry it.
will these work with hunter rotary heads?
Donald D on May 13, 2013
BEST ANSWER: No these are specifically design for pop ups...you could use a shrub riser to raise the entire head or the best solution is to replace the rotor with a shrub riser and impact sprinkler if u need additional height while not compromising distance!
My system is Hunter I 20 and I need to extend the sprinkler heads. Will this work or is there another product that will work? Thanks. Dave Darbutt

I installed 6" spray extensions to my Rain Bird 1806 when the ground cover began to obstruct the spray pattern of the sprinklers, it was an inexpensive fix for my problem. I would recommend the extension if you have a similar problem however, when the spray cycle is complete and the sprinkler shaft retracts the extension is still exposed above grade so I don't recommend them unless they are in a protected area.

How do I assemble Rain Bird EXT 6.5" extension to existing pop-up head, or reattach 6.5" extension to existing pop-up head?
A shopper on Apr 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: simply pull out the existing pop up shaft, remove the spray nozzle and the screen underneath exposing the male threads. Now thread the female end of the new Rainbird 6.5" shaft extension onto the male threads of the old pop up shaft-hand tight only. Let the extension retract back into the sprinkler which will now leave only the new extension sticking up above the ground. Now drop the filter screen back into the extension and re-install your spray nozzle and your done. These extensions are only good usually for flower beds or areas that you dont have foot traffic or a lawn mower because the extra 6.5" shaft extension cannot retract fully back into the sprinkler body.
Will this work with the old Nelson 5500 sprinkler heads?

BEST ANSWER: It will if Rain Bird nozzles will fit on the Nelson 5500
do you have shorter spray shaft extensions????? like 1" or 2" for spray heads that are slightly below the surface of the lawn????
A shopper on May 24, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The right way to fix the issue of the head being below the lawn surface is to raise the head by inserting a fitting underneath the head.
