Toro EHC-01-04 4 Zone Electric-to-Hydraulic Converter (Normally Open)

  • Electric-to-Hydraulic Converter
  • Converters any 24 VAC timer to operate hydraulic systems
  • Can combine multiple converters for more zones

Toro Electric-Hydraulic Converters (EHC) provide the ability to bring together electrical outputs from sophisticated electric controllers and the pressure-based signals in hydraulic irrigation systems. EHC is ideal for retrofitting hydraulic systems, enabling Normally-Open (NO) or Normally-Closed (NC) hydraulic valves to be operated with a 24 VAC output irrigation system controller. For new installations, hydraulic control valves are ideal for applications in areas with increased lightning risk or poor water conditions.

What's more, you can add as many converters as you need - expansion is unlimited.

Features & Benefits

  • Installation of an Electric to Hydraulic Converter (EHC) assembly module enables Normally-Open (NO) or Normally-Closed (NC) hydraulic control valves to be operated with a 24 VAC output irrigation system controller. In addition, the EHC provides a convenient method of manually operating single or multiple valves without controller assistance.
  • The Normally-Open EHC is identified by White control selectors and its supply filter assembly connected to the left hand tubing port. The Normally-Closed EHC is identified by Black control selectors and its supply filter assembly connected to the right side tubing port.
  • The modular design of the EHC enables it to be installed in various types of controller installations. Two screws holes are provided in each module mounting plate for pedestal cabinet or wall installation. If sub-surface installation is required, the converter modules can be simply placed inside a valve box or vault-type enclosure.
  • CAUTION: If hydraulic converter installation site is subject to freezing temperature conditions, installation of proper thermal protection (i.e., heat-generating device) must be installed to ensure that water inside the coverter does not freeze. Failure to do so will result in severe damage to the converter assembly and VOIDS THE PRODUCT WARRANTY. Please contact your Toro distributor for recommended freeze protection methods, devices and information.
  • Warranty: 2 Years

Replace Toro Custom II Controller
The replacement of the mechanical controller with an electric \ hydraulic control went smoothly and works well. Although the included documentation of the EHC-01-04 does not state it, the controller supports both Normally Open and Normally Closed valves - I have both. The support from Byron at level 2 tech support was superb and his explanation of how these valves worked made it easy to configure and plumb the new device.

This unit is the only electric to hydraulic converter left in the irrigation market, it is efficient but Toro knows they have a monopoly on these units and keep raising the price. Buy now while on sale!

Replace your OLD Toro Master Eight control panel
This is by far the best solution to replace your old Toto Master Eight sprinkler control panel. I wish I would have done this years ago.

Great product
Great product. It dies exactly what I needed it to do. The only two things I wish it came with are 1) a two station option 2) more mounting options. I had to retrofit an old Rainbird converter box to accept the new Toro unit. It was a bit rough, but I got it.

Good Solution
Was able to save my old Toro hydraulic lawn watering system with this converter. Had to work through some startup issues like sticky solenoid valves and leaky connections but Toro customer service was a great help in overcoming these issues.

I bought it for parts
I bought it to scavenge parts to repair the two EHC-01-04 units I have previously/recently incorporated into my 40 year old system conversion.
I'm disappointed I have to keep repairing the EHC's but delighted they keep my geriatric sprinkler working.

Very, Very Disappointed in Express Shipping
I needed the product ASAP because my installer was already scheduled in be here in a couple days so I paid the extra $40 plus dollars for the express shipping. I had ordered two of these and when we got them and my sprinkler technician went to install them he discovered one of them was cracked and leaked very badly so he could not finish the installation.l So I ordered another one (no express shipping this time) and rescheduled my installer to come back. Long story but S/W would not refund my express shipping even though it did me absolutely zero good and, in fact, caused me extra expense to have my installer make a second service call due to the defective product I received from S/W. Not my fault they sent me a defective product so the express shipping option turned out to be an extra over $40 cost to me for which I received absolutely zero benefit, not to mention the extra cost for the additional call by the installer. I really like the product but I think the customer service I received was very, very disappointing and I definitely will be extremely if I ever need to deal with these folks again.

Used these to convert an old hydro system to electric---these work well but make sure you make precise cuts in your 1/4" tubing to create a snug fit into converter. Glad Toro made this simple bridge into the 21st century, now we can water automatically.

Replaced Freetime Toro 8 station hydraulic controller with two of these converters and a new toro control box. Cannot get stations to open and close properly. Tried bleeding each station manually. Sometimes 2 or 3 stations are operating at the same time. Solenoids on converter operate according to the controller stations. What procedures do I need to follow?
A shopper on Aug 10, 2013
BEST ANSWER: I had same problem. Check discharge flow from converter. Should not be a steady flow. I had steady flow which was probably due to sticking solenoid valve. After changing out valves I eventually solved problem by tapping solenoid valve with screwdriver handle and it started working correctly.
What replacement solenoid should I use with this product?

I have toro sprinkler system about 25 years old and they don't have replacement controllers with timers because they been converted to electric controllers. I assume this product will replace the 25 year old 8 valve timed hydraulic controller?
Tim L on May 26, 2014
I'm not sure I understand your question completely, and I am no expert on these old Toro systems, but I'll give it a go. This replacement part is electronic and hydraulic. It comes with 4 solenoids attached to a plastic plate (with wiring) and the hydraulic attachment part on the bottom. This will sit in a "valve box" and replace any old electric valves that might have been in there. An electric signal will tell the hydraulic part when to open and or close and on the systems I've seen the water pressure applied to the actual spray head keeps it from opening or coming on. When there is a loss in pressure the spray head will activate and spray. All of this still needs to be controlled by some sort of electric controller, usually at pedestals scattered throughout the property. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck!
How would you determine whether to buy a "normally open or "normally closed" converter Can I determine from the old hydraulic controller model number or is there some other way?
RICHARD R on Jun 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: There are many valve design variations. Ordinary valves can have many ports and fluid paths. A 2-way valve, for example, has 2 ports; if the valve is open, then the two ports are connected and fluid may flow between the ports; if the valve is closed, then ports are isolated. If the valve is open when the solenoid is not energized, then the valve is termed normally open (N.O.). Similarly, if the valve is closed when the solenoid is not energized, then the valve is termed normally closed. for example; if water pressure from your HYD line causes the head to stop operating then your head is N.O. (In other words, the valve is open out of the box, putting water pressure to it closes it) normally closed, just the opposite. another indicator would be if you have a hyd line that releases pressure when you turn on a station then your system is N.O. BEST OF LUCK...MIKE
Can I hire someone to put this in for me?
A shopper on Jun 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They will probably charge an arm and a leg. I did mine without any help. Connecting to the control box is the most complicated and even that is easily done.

If you have any mechanical aptitude I would be happy to guide you through.

This conversion will be new to most.

how do i bleed hydraulic lines?
David P on Sep 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Are you just installing this now? The first time I fired up my system I had to manually turn each valve with a screwdriver while the pump was on. So at the time two zones would be working. After I did this each zone would work properly. I hope this was the answer you was looking for
How do I buy just one of the four control valves?
A shopper on May 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You cannot buy just one of the body and solenoid - it comes in blocks of four, that's why it gives you a break on price. If you bought one body and solenoid from Toro, it's $90
