Is purple primer required with this product?
thank you!
John B on Feb 26, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The ONLY reason it is purple is because it is easier for the inspector to see. Some Designers and Architects have it spec'ed into the job so that the inspector can confirm its use below the cement. Primer is used to soften the PVC or CPVC so that your pipe will be able to bottom out into the fitting or cap. It helps the plastic become semi-fluid. With interference fit pipes and fittings, the fittings are made so that the pipe will get tight 1/3 to 2/3 of the way into the fitting. Hope this helps. I work for Weld-On and teach the proper techniques for assembling PVC and CPVC. We offer FREE training anywhere in the US and HI. , and can train your team to get them card qualified for ASME B31.3 and ASTM D-2855.
