Rain Bird 42064 Wrench for Mini-Paw and Maxi-Paw Rotors

Used for routine maintenance of Rain Bird pop-up impact sprinkler models LG-3 Mini-Paw, AG-5 and 2045A Maxi-Paw, this tool makes quick work of servicing the sprinkler’s internal assembly. No need to dig or remove the entire sprinkler head. Use the top of the wrench to pry up the top of the sprinkler. Then unscrew the sprinkler’s internal mechanism using the extended hex portion of the wrench. Clean or replace the mechanism using the reverse procedure. This handy wrench will help you keep your irrigation system working efficiently for a lush, green lawn with uniform watering and minimal overspray.

  • Easily clean or replace Rain Bird impact sprinkler head internal assemblies without digging
  • Chrome finished tool is designed for use with LG-3/Mini-Paw, AG-5/Maxi-Paw and 2045A Maxi-Paw sprinklers
  • Lift the cap using the flat tipped handle
  • Unscrew and lift the sprinkler mechanism using the lower hex wrench

Looks like it will be effective.
Haven't actually heard to use it yet. Looks like it will be great. My only question, is there an easy way to open the top? I feel I have to force the lifter under the cap and I'm afraid I'm going to break it.

Doesn't fit well
I borrowed my neighbor's tool and it fit the sprinkler head perfectly. Mine was off a bit so I needed to juggle the head and tool to keep it engaged. Very annoying.

do you sell just the internal assembly for the rain bird maxi paw sprinklers?

does this wrench work?
A shopper on Jun 20, 2011
BEST ANSWER: This wrench does work, but be aware of its limitations. Any dirt or debris around the bottom nut of the sprinkler head will keep the wrench from grabbing, and it often takes a minute or two of wiggling to get a good grip. Every once in awhile the entire sprinkler body needs to be flushed out with water before the wrench can grab. That being said, I can't imagine another way to service these sprinklers.
What is the difference between the maxi paw and mini paw?
greg b on May 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Mini-Paw and the Maxi-Paw are types of Pop-Up Impact Rotor Sprinklers. The difference being is the Mini-Paw has no adjustability in nozzle size where the Maxi-Paw comes with 5 different size nozzles to change the gallon per minute output.
Have old rainbird sprinkler with 1 3/8 inch bottom nut, where can I get that tool?
Dennis F on Apr 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Good morning, you can look at part # 42064. That should help you. If you need further assistance please let us know.
how do you adjust the maxi paw sprinkler?
A shopper on Jul 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is very difficult to do, after the unit is installed, and when it is not actually operating!

One trick, if you do not want your part-circle to spray everything that it should not, is to push-up the inner mechanism (from the bottom inlet) BEFORE installing the head. Use the trip collars that way, to approximate your desired coverage arc.

Now it's necessary to know where that will be, when the ___-Paw is actually installed. The cover rotates, so marking that won't do. Instead put some tape on the outside rim of the sprinkler, maybe about in the middle of the eastblished coverage arc setting, to avoid confusion later on.

There is really no way to avoid having to finish setting the arc & diffuser pin with the sprinkler actually running.
Hope that answers your question. (It's usually better to just throw the thing in & take your chances LOL)
