Relax with the knowledge your landscape is being watered by reliable 5000 Series Rotors and industry-leading Rain Curtain Nozzle Technology. Rain Bird 5000 Series Rotors are ideal for medium to large-size lawns and evenly distribute water from 25 to 50 feet. The 5000 Series Rotors with Rain Curtain Technology are engineered to deliver a uniform spray pattern, giving you a consistently green lawn throughout. The larger water droplets produced by Rain Curtain technology prevent misting and airborne evaporation so the right amount of water is delivered to the right place, saving you water and money. Gentle close-in watering eliminates dry spots around the rotor, prevents seed washout and allows the turf to grow healthy with no matting or bending.

Looking for the improved curtain over my Hunter I20 older heads, as dry spots are within 6-12 feet in a situation where the rotor sprays in from the curb and the grade slightly calls off down after the sidewalk.

I have used these for years. They get destroyed by lawn mower and mineral build up. Usually the later. I haven't found any advantages of the more expensive SAM variety.

Extra nozzles are included and I like the ability to turn off the flow of an individual sprinker while the system is active, hopefully this will make rotor adjustment easier.

finally rain bird made a head that is competitive with the PGP and this head does not leak around the seals like the pgp, They still fail after years of use, but in general this plus model head actually compares more to an I-20 and is half the price and everything works the same as their regular 5004 model. IDK why any contractor would use the regular to save $1.40 when talking about a few thousand dollar system and its easier to shut a head down for either control or just changing nozzles

how do you adjust this head?
Alan F on Jul 7, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The head has a "fixed left". So with a turn of the rear screw (hole marked with an arrow and a + or -) towards the plus sign you increase the direction the head will go right. To decrease towards right, turn towards the minus.

If your fixed left is too far left, wait until the head reaches the farthest right, the turn the head towards the right. Then re-adjust with the screw to correct the right side again. This is the arc adjustment.

The radius adjustment (front screw at nozzle) will adjust the spray. The more you turn the screw clockwise, the spray will lower and do more of a spray vs. a stream. Basically the screw is being sent downward not only to hold the spray head in, but then to affect the spray by protruding into the stream of water.

The center hole on a 5000 plus (green top) turns the flow off so that if you are adjusting numerous heads, you won't get soaked.

It also makes a difference which spray head nozzle you install into the hole prior to installing the head. If you look you will see numbers on the nozzles. The larger the number, the longer the throw. I usually use a 3.0 for a fairly long travel. Hope this helps.
I have a 28' X 35' rectangular zone that has 4 corner and 1 360 in the middle. I want to replace with Rain Bird 5004+PCR. Do I still need a 360 in the middle?

What does PLPC stand for in 5004PLPC Sprinkker heads? Whare does it fit in the 5004 searies of heads?
Robert C on Oct 14, 2011
BEST ANSWER: The 5004-PLPC stands for 5000 series "plus" (plus meaning having the ability to shut the water flow off at a particular head while leaving the rest of the zone running). The rotor is also plastic rather than stainless steel and is a 4" pop-up rotor. The PC stands for partial circle as opposed to a full circle. The rotor is adjustable from 40 to 360 degrees. As opposed to 0 to 360 degrees.

These rotors are adjustable with a fixed left and then can be adjusted to the right with a simple turn of a screw. The middle screw turns the head on and off (Plus) and the distance that it throws can be changed with the insertion of the various nozzles provided with the rotor. Also can be changed slightly by how far down you put the screw that holds the nozzle in place.

I find the "plus" feature nice because you can shut some heads off when adjusting your system so you don't get soak and wet. Also, if you have a head in the shade, and the rest of the zone is in the sun, you can turn the head off at times. Gives some flexibility for not a lot of cost.
