The Wirevirus is a compact irrigation wiring solution designed to help operate two sprinkler valves independently using a single existing field wire. It can be used when adding a new zone, repairing damaged field wire, or avoiding the extra work of trenching and pulling new wire. When used within its specified limits (under 1 amp) and normal operating conditions, the Wirevirus is designed to provide long-lasting performance for many years of use.

Compatible with standard 24V irrigation controllers, the Wirevirus is waterproof, compact, and designed for outdoor irrigation use. Its color-coded wiring helps make installation easier in the field.

How to Add a New Irrigation Zone with Wirevirus

  1. Locate the existing valve closest to the new valve installation to help simplify wiring.
  2. At the valves, disconnect the working field wire from the existing valve.
  3. Connect the working field wire to the green wire on the Wirevirus.
  4. Choose either the red or blue Wirevirus wire for the existing valve connection. In this example, the red wire is connected to the existing valve.
  5. Connect the remaining Wirevirus wire to the newly installed valve. In this example, the blue wire is connected to the new valve.
  6. Connect the common wire to the new valve.
  7. At the irrigation controller, disconnect the existing field wire from the original terminal and connect it to the green wire on the second Wirevirus unit using a wire nut.
  8. Reconnect the Wirevirus wire used for the existing valve back to the original controller terminal. In this example, the red wire is reconnected to the original valve terminal.
  9. Connect the remaining Wirevirus wire to the new valve terminal at the controller. In this example, the blue wire is connected to terminal 2.

How to Repair a Damaged Field Wire with Wirevirus

  1. Identify the working field wire and the damaged field wire. In this example, the orange wire is working and the yellow wire is damaged.
  2. Cut and abandon the damaged field wire.
  3. At the valves, disconnect the working field wire from Valve 2.
  4. Connect the working field wire to the green wire on the Wirevirus using a wire nut.
  5. Connect Valve 2 to the red Wirevirus wire.
  6. Connect Valve 1 to the blue Wirevirus wire.
  7. Leave the common wire connected and verify it has a secure connection.
  8. At the irrigation controller, remove and abandon the damaged field wire.
  9. Disconnect the working field wire from the controller terminal.
  10. Connect the working field wire to the green wire on the second Wirevirus unit using a wire nut.
  11. Reconnect the red Wirevirus wire to the controller terminal for Valve 2.
  12. Reconnect the blue Wirevirus wire to the controller terminal for Valve 1.
