How Do Backflow Insulation Bags Work?

Backflow Armor insulation bags are designed to protect backflow prevention assemblies from freezing temperatures during cold weather. The bag is placed completely over the backflow preventer, covering the valve body, piping, and any exposed fittings. Since the bags are well insulated, they’ll be able to slow the heat transfer process and reduce the risk of freezing. Most bags also come with Velcro straps to secure them tightly, preventing cold air from entering.

BackFlow Armor FAQs

Are BackFlow Armor products easy to install?

BackFlow Armor insulation bags and cages are both pretty easy to install. Like other insulation bags, you can simply slip them over the backflow preventer and secure them with Velcro straps, so you won’t need any tools. Cages like the Backflow Armor Green Theft Prevention Backflow Cage are designed to fit over the assembly and bolt down with basic hardware. We even have instructions on the product page.

Do BackFlow Armor products protect against theft?

BackFlow Armor products, like their backflow cage, can help deter theft of your backflow preventer. By enclosing your setup in a metal cage, it’s much harder for thieves to access or remove what’s inside. While no backflow cage is completely theft-proof, they still act as a physical deterrent for casual thieves.

Can I use BackFlow Armor bags year-round?

Yes, you can use BackFlow Armor bags beyond just winter, but they’re primarily designed for cold‑weather protection. They’re UV-rated, weather‑resistant, and waterproof, so they can stay outdoors through warmer months without immediate damage. However, it’s usually best to take them off when freezing isn’t a concern. Moisture and heat can get trapped in the bag, which may promote mold.
