Common Types of Hose Connectors

On the Sprinkler Warehouse website, our selection of hose adapters and fittings varies in use cases and materials.

  • Threaded Connectors - These have male or female threads to screw onto hose ends, faucets, and other accessories.

  • Compression Fittings - With an internal compression ring, you can connect your tubing to these fittings by simply pushing them in.

  • Y or Splitter Fittings - Divide one water source into multiple lines, each with its own independent control.

  • Swivel Adapters - Prevent hoses from twisting or kinking by allowing the pieces to rotate (without coming undone).

Hose Connector FAQs

Are hose connectors universal?

Not all hoses will connect to fittings of the same size. The most common size of irrigation hose connectors is 3/4 inch, which accommodates 5/8 inch hoses, but you should always check to see what your hoses are compatible with beforehand.

How do I know what size hose connector I need?

Most garden hoses are either 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch, or 3/4 inch in diameter. You can measure the inside diameter of the hose to confirm which of these sizes is correct. Hose connectors are typically made to fit standard garden hose threads, but you should also ensure your connector matches this thread size.

How do I stop a hose fitting from leaking?

A hose can leak for any number of reasons, but the first thing to check is how tight the connection is. Make sure the fitting is securely attached, but avoid overtightening, which can damage threads or washers. If that doesn’t work, try wrapping thread tape around the male threads to create a tighter seal and prevent leaks. If there is still a leak, check again for cracks or debris in the threads, as they can prevent a tight seal.
