How to Use Blu-Lock Saddle Tees
You can quickly tap into an existing irrigation pipe with Blu-Lock saddle tees in just a few simple steps. Start by placing the two halves of the saddle body around the existing pipe and firmly push them together until they lock into place. Next, screw the separate saddle tap component into the saddle body. As you twist, you’ll pierce the pipe, creating a clean hole and instant flow to the new branch line. After that, just connect a fitting to the end of the saddle body, and you’ll be ready to irrigate.
Blu-Lock Saddle Tee FAQs
What type of pipe can I install a saddle tee on?
While Blu-Lock saddle tees are only designed for Blu-Lock sprinkler pipe, other saddle tees can be installed on PVC pipe and various types of polyethylene pipe. Still, you’ll need to select a saddle tee that is explicitly designed and rated for the pipe you’re using. Furthermore, most saddle tees are only designed for a specific size of pipe. Blu-Lock saddle tees with a one-inch saddle body will not work with much larger or smaller pipes.
Do I need any special tools to install a Blu-Lock Saddle Tee?
The main advantage of the Blu-Lock system is that it is designed for a tool-free installation, which is why it's so popular with DIY enthusiasts. For the Blu-Lock saddle tee specifically, you generally do not need any specialized tools for the initial installation. As you can see in the instructions above, you won’t need any primer, glue, clamps, or crimping tools.
Are Blu-Lock Saddle Tees reusable?
Yes, Blu-Lock saddle tees are designed to be releasable and reusable. You can remove the lateral tubing from the saddle and reuse the fitting in another location. Just remember, even though the saddle itself can often be repositioned, the mainline hole may need to be properly sealed or capped if left exposed.
