How to Replace a Sprinkler Body
After years and years of use, sprinkler bodies may approach the ends of their lifespans. Luckily, replacing a Hunter spray body with a new one is easy enough for any DIY irrigation enthusiast. Start by turning off the water and exposing the old spray body. Make sure not to damage the connecting pipe while digging. Remove the old component and get ready to add your new Hunter sprinkler body. You may need to check the new part to ensure the pop-up height and spray radius are properly set. Next, connect the new spray body to the mainline or lateral pipe using threads, compression, or a solvent weld. After that, just install the riser and nozzle, and your new Hunter sprinkler body should be ready to water.
Hunter Spray Body FAQs
Are Hunter sprinkler bodies compatible with all nozzles?
Hunter sprinkler bodies are mostly compatible with Hunter nozzles, but compatibility with other brands depends on the threading and riser type. Most Hunter spray bodies use the same standard male/female thread sizes, but other brands aren’t guaranteed. For reliable performance and to avoid leaks or misalignment, it’s best to use Hunter nozzles with Hunter bodies.
What pop-up height do I need?
Choosing the right pop-up height for a sprinkler head depends on the type of area you’re watering. For lawns and turf areas, use a pop-up height that’s 2” to 4” above the grass so the spray clears the blades without being too tall. Flower beds and low plants can use shorter pop-ups, while tall grass may require pop-ups 6″ or 12″.
How long does a Hunter sprinkler body last?
A Hunter PRO‑SPRAY Sprinkler Body or similar Hunter sprinkler body is very durable and built to last for years. Under normal residential use with proper maintenance, spray bodies will last up to 10 years before needing replacement. Actual lifespans can vary quite a bit depending on soil conditions, water quality, and pressure fluctuations.
