Adding sensors to an Irritrol controller is not always necessary, but it can make your sprinkler system more efficient and reactive to the environment. Installing a new rain sensor can stop watering after rainfall, while freeze or soil moisture sensors can help prevent watering in poor conditions or when the soil is already wet. To connect a sensor to an Irritrol controller, start by turning everything off. If your model has sensor terminals, you can connect the sensor wires directly to those terminals. If your controller does not have sensor terminals, the sensor may need to interrupt the valve common wire instead.

What is the difference between start times and station run times?

Start times tell the controller when a watering schedule begins, while station run times tell it how long each zone runs. For example, a 6:00 a.m. start time means the schedule begins at 6:00. If three different zones have a 15-minute run time, the station run time will be 45 minutes, as zones tend to run one after another, not all at the same time.

Do I need separate sensors for my Irritrol sprinkler controller?
