Installing a Male Adapter on a Poly Pipe

There are two halves of a poly male adapter. One side has a barbed connection, and the other is threaded. Start the connection process by inserting the barbed end into your pipe. The pipe is pushed over the barbed section, which grips the inside of the pipe, creating a tight seal and preventing leaks. Next, the other end of the adapter with male threads (external threads) can be screwed into the female-threaded component, like sprinkler heads or other fittings. Sprinkler male adapters require no special tools or adhesives. You simply push the barbed end into the pipe and screw the threaded end into the sprinkler or other component.

Male Adapter FAQs

What is a male adapter used for?

Irrigation male adapters are frequently used in residential, commercial, and agricultural irrigation systems to connect sprinkler heads to the main irrigation line, allowing the water to flow from the pipe to the sprinkler. These adapters are also used in repairs or system expansions, providing a simple solution for adding new components to an existing system.

What is the difference between male and female adapters?

A male adapter has external threads, while a female adapter has internal threads. They’re designed so that a male adapter can connect to the female-threaded end of a sprinkler head or valve with a simple twist.

Will these adapters connect two pieces of poly pipe?

Insert male adapters are not designed to connect two different pieces of poly pipe. Insert male adapters are designed to connect poly pipe to a female-threaded component, such as a sprinkler head, valve, or another fitting that has female threads. To connect two different pieces of poly pipe, traditionally you’ll want to use an insert coupling.
