Rotary sprinkler heads, including rotary spray nozzles and rotating sprinklers, offer superior water-saving solutions and enhanced irrigation efficiency. These spray rotary sprinkler heads deliver water in multi-trajectory, revolving streams, allowing for slower, more uniform application compared to traditional sprays. This technology is especially beneficial on slopes and in clay-like soils, where it helps prevent runoff and ensures water is effectively absorbed into the landscape, reducing waste and improving water usage. Upgrade to rotating sprinklers for a smarter, more efficient irrigation system.

Stream rotors are different from standard rotors in that instead of blasting a great deal of water ...
Rotary Nozzles are better at watering larger or sloped areas because it takes longer to get the same coverage. This allows for more water absorption before more water comes around. Though, this also means that it takes longer to water the same area, even if you need fewer heads. In short, Rotary nozzles are better if you have a lot of areas to cover, or if the area needing water has hills and valleys.
The best-selling rotor is Hunter's PGP ADJ, which has held that position for nearly 40 years now. The PGP ADJ was a revolutionary product that has had continuous improvements since it debuted, allowing it to hold that position without wavering. The PGP ADJ has a watering distance of 22 to 55 feet depending on water pressure and can spray water to all your plants for years to come without breaking.
Rotary nozzles save water by applying it more slowly and evenly through rotating streams instead of a fast spray. This lower precipitation rate allows water to soak into the soil rather than running off, especially on slopes or compacted soil. Because water is distributed more uniformly, plants receive better coverage with less waste, often reducing overall irrigation time and water use.
You can usually replace spray nozzles with rotary nozzles as long as they fit your existing sprinkler bodies. Rotary nozzles often have the same threaded connection, so installation is typically as simple as unscrewing the old spray nozzle and attaching the new one. However, rotary nozzles have a lower precipitation rate than traditional spray nozzles, so you may need to adjust watering times. Always check that the radius and pattern match your zone layout.
Rotary nozzles typically spray anywhere from 8 to 35 feet, depending on the model and nozzle type. Smaller rotary nozzles are often used for short-radius areas, while larger models can cover larger lawn zones. For the best results, check the radius details for each product on our site and maintain the recommended PSI.
Your rotary nozzle can become clogged after years of use. To clean it, turn off the zone and remove the nozzle from the spray body or rotor. Rinse the nozzle under clean water and use a soft brush or toothpick to remove dirt from the openings. Also check and rinse the filter screen below the nozzle, since this often traps debris. Once you’re finished, reinstall the filter and nozzle, then run the zone briefly to flush the line.
There are two leading options for rotary nozzles in the industry. There is the Hunter MP and the Rain Bird R-VAN. These rotary sprinklers are comparable to one another, with both having adjustable arcs and spray distances, but there are some differences. The MP has a greater watering distance but less range for the arc to change, for example, whereas the R-VAN has a greater arc range at the cost of distance.
