The Conbraco-Apollo pressure vacuum breaker is designed with a built-in freeze resistance feature and an easily removable modular check valve cartridge. The unique canopy detachment is made of UV-Resistant ABS. The body of this device is designed, cast, machined, assembled, and tested in the USA. The installation of the PVB does not require the use of any special tools.
The Conbraco Freeze Resistant PVB is manufactured with industry-standard materials. These materials include a glass-filled PPO check valve cartridge and bonnet. The o-rings are made of chloramine-resistant EPDM and the float is made of glass-filled polypropylene. The seat discs are manufactured with chloramine-resistant silicone. Like many pressure vacuum breaker designs, the springs are made with strong stainless steel material. The maximum operating pressure for this device is 150 PSI and the temperature range is 33°F to 140°F.
The Conbraco-Apollo PVB should be installed above ground as close as possible to the isolation valve and within a few inches of a trench that leads to the zone control valves. On the pressure vacuum breaker assembly riser, measure up twelve inches and place a second mark. If the riser isn’t tall enough, extend it with a coupling. Although the Conbraco 4A-500 Freeze Resistant PVB Backflow Preventer has a standard built-in freeze resistance feature, it is still recommened to winterize the device. By installing a backflow pouch and covering the PVC pipes with polymer foam insulation, your device is less likely to become damaged during severe freezing weather conditions.
Backflow devices that are installed above ground can be protected from theft by installing either an artificial rock. backflow enclosure or gorilla cage. The rocks are designed to cover your backflow and also make it blend into the landscaping. The backflow enclosure is designed to discourage the thief from a quick job.
