Doesn't cost much for longevity
I've had these valves in service for over fifteen years with very few failures. The main reason for replacement is improper draining when shutting the system down for the winter.

Have single, 2-gang, 3-gang and 4-gang units installed. I love how easy they were to install and adjust using flow control.

Perfect solution
Since I’ve never seen any complete repair kit for these Hunter flow control valves, I’m disassembling these valves to get the necessary part to rebuild 20 year old Hunter valves I have. Fortunately the top portion still fits the old valve housings and the cost is fine. This results in a much, much easier job that it would be to replace the complete valves.

These match the internals of the valves which were originally installed. The valve bodies have held up for over 15 years. The internals have needed minor upgrades when new timers/solenoids have been replaced.

Are these slow close valves?
Joe H on Jun 29, 2013
BEST ANSWER: They are fairly quick to close and will ne as long as they stay clean. I ordered these with flow control tops so I can "tune" them to close better than the standard model. You can prevent the diaphragm from sticking open by pre-loading the top of the diaphragm with a little spring pressure.
one of my zones stays watering even though the system is off, what is wrong?
A shopper on Apr 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have had similar problems. Fix has been to make sure that the 9v battery is in good shape and second the solenoid in the valve is stuck. Typically this has occurred because the valve has failed or there is air in line that prevents the valve from closing. I usually disassemble the valve to reduce the potential of air in the line. And it that does not solve the problem I replace the entire valve. I recognize that I could simply replace the solenoid but I just want to get this done and so I replace the entire valve and solenoid.
Will this valve work with your DIG 5006 IP Timer?

BEST ANSWER: Great, Thanks Jared that is just what I needed to know.
With valve is better the hunter PGV-101G or the Rain-bird 100-DVF?
toolman on Jun 2, 2016
Hunter PGV In-Line Valve with Flow Control 1
Hunter PGV In-Line Valve with Flow Control 1" FPT | PGV-101G
Rain Bird DVF In-Line Valve with Flow Control 1
Rain Bird DVF In-Line Valve with Flow Control 1" FPT | 100-DVF-NPT
BEST ANSWER: Can't say with certainty but I just added 2 new zones. The installer liked the hunter pgp pro heads but used the rainbird valves. They do seem to have better coverage and flow than the other zones that have pgp valves
Can I buy just the solenoid part of the valve ? PGV Irrigation control valve
Brian K on May 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the solenoid can be replaced on these. They just unscrew and a new one screws in its place
I purchased PGV-101G and have installed them. however The water is trickling. How do I adjust them? The manual offers NO instructions to setting the valve. Solenoid has sign indicating 1/2 turn on/off but no indications on bleed pin or flow control knob. Thank you
Jim S on May 10, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The flow control which is in the center of the top of the valve may
be turned down causing low flow. Use a screw driver to turn the
flow control counter clockwise to increase flow. Turning the flow
control clockwise decreases flow.
does this valve have threaded inlet and outlet?
A shopper on Oct 16, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the FPT designation means it has female tapered threads (internal).
Both inlet and outlet are threaded.
The valve leaks when fully closed. Any ideas to fix it before I replace the valve?
A shopper on Jun 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I am not sure as to where the leak is. If the leak means that when you open and shut the flange below the solenoid then try and reinstall the diaphragm and make sure that the diaphragm is properly fitted. There is usually a little lip that faces the solenoid flange. That should be seated properly. Good luck. I have not had any problems with Hunter valves.
I really just need a valve like this to use for manual isolation. I see pvc ball valves and they say "frost proof: NO" - so I don't think they have the qualify I need. I have just tried and Orbit electric valve manually turning the solenoid 1/4 turn to open, but I believe it is due to an "external bleed" when in this mode that is causing flooding (about 15-20 gallons per day).

I need a 1" inline valve that I can manually leave open for the entire watering season. I see "internal bleed" is this the one, or do you have a better recommendation?

Thanks,

Dennis Cohoon
D C on May 24, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Dennis,

I am not sure about this guy' s problem, but I can offer a few suggestions concerning the solenoid valve I purchased. This valve is working without a problem. I use the valve to control one zone in my yard and the value remains fully open. If I need to reduce the flow, I can do a minor adjustment. The valve is located about 12 " in the ground, which will keep it from freezing in my area (south Georgia). The minimum freeze line is about 12" from Atlanta south. I wish I could offer more solutions, but I will need more facts about his problem.

George
Will these valves readily close when blowing each zone out with air one at a time for winter prep?
John F on Apr 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: our system is blown out as a whole, all I can say is that when the water is turned back on in the spring (we are on irrigation water) they are closed. our solenoids are latch solenoids as our controller is solar.
can i buy just the bonnet for this valve?
james d on Jun 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Don't know. Typically I replace the entire valve... make one repair and I am done.
how do I determine which valve controls which zone?
A shopper on Apr 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Cycle your zones manually using your control panel taking note which zones are where. Then go to your valve box and manually turn on each valve one at a time and take note which zone it turns on. With that info. You should be able to match up valves with zones.
This is regarding screws on top of valve. One is solenoid. One in middle is flow control. What is other?

When setting up, what position is the solenoid set in? (Closed, 1/4 open???)
A shopper on Jul 18, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Third screw is to manually actuate valve. Turning it counterclockwise will allow valve to flow.

Solenoid does not get set. It is controlled by Sprinkler clock.
Are the SRV and PGV valves interchangeable?
Norman T on May 15, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The SRV is a less robust series for residential use that comes only in 1 inch size and only in globe geometry (water comes in one side and out the other). It can't operate at the low flows of some drip systems. It appears to be discontinued.
with the Hunter PGV-101G 1 in. FPT Valve with Flow Control, how does the flow control work and what does it control (flow or PSI or both)?
Van H on May 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Is basically used a variable flow restriction that reduces the discharge pressure of the valve and thus flow through your sprinkler heads. There are limits on how much you can restrict the flow without it making a lot of noise.
Valve will not open manually or electrically, will open only with bleed screw. Any suggestions?
